Christian Education Program

From September to May, we offer Sunday school from 9:30-10:30AM.  There are currently four classes offered during this time: 1st-3rd grade, 4th-6th grade, 7th-12th grade, and the Adult Sunday school class.  Our youth program begins in the sanctuary for The Gathering, where all youth learn a story from the Bible based on the liturgical calendar.  The youngest youth move into their classroom and build on the story they heard during The Gathering through further discussion, arts and crafts, music and puzzles. The older youth begin their class with fifteen minutes of singing followed by 45 minutes of Sunday school. The Adult Sunday school class is conducting a series of book studies throughout the year.  From time to time, the adults and youth may supplement their study with a lesson from the Thoughtful Christian.

The youth program offers several events for the youth to gather outside of the Sunday school classroom every year. The last several years, the youth have participated in church lock-ins, fundraising events, duckpin bowling, and mission trips.  It is through these extracurricular events that the youth build even stronger relationships in their faith with one another and with the communities around them.

During the 11:00AM worship service, Oaklands provides a staffed nursery for those children who are five years old and younger.  The nursery is staffed by our nursery attendant and by a parent or congregational volunteer.
